Chrome on the outside: a piston or a telescopic cylinder
Suitable type: Externally chrome-plated tubes
Why: Hard chrome on the outside of a precision tube.
Chrome on the inside of the bore
Suitable type: Internally chrome-plated tubes
Why: A chrome-plated bore with a precision surface for hydraulic cylinder bodies.
Surface wear, heavily loaded cylinders
Suitable type: Induction-hardened externally chrome-plated tubes
Why: An induction-hardened layer under the chrome for higher surface hardness.
A corrosive environment: sea, offshore, mining
Suitable type: Nickel-chrome plated tubes
Why: Nickel-chrome instead of plain hard chrome, for corrosive service; an induction-hardened version is also available.
